The major redevelopment undertaken by James Thorpe and Partners at this church designed by J Oldrid Scott, son of the famous Sir George Gilbert Scott, included the re-ordering of the previous Sanctuary and High Altar area into an adaptable space for private prayer and small group worship screened from the main body of the church and new sanctuary.
One hundred years after the building was first opened, the chancel area with its new furnishings was dedicated by the Archbishop of York in 1999. Chancel screens, communion table, lectern, clergy stalls, choir fronts, altar rails and a base for a cross were all made in natural ash and installed by Treske.
Treske are experienced in working with leading church architects and at being part of the process every congregation goes through when changes are made."
A particular feature of the brief was that all the sanctuary furniture should look permanent and yet be removable to allow for the greatest possible flexibility of use of the space.
